Easter Fun for Everyone!

Are you a parent with a child who has a disability? Are you a disabled parent yourself?

Well, then this article was written for YOU!

Everyone wants to have fun during the Easter festivities, but sometimes we need just a little adapting to make it an equitable time. Here are a few ways that I adapt Easter for myself as a visually impaired mother, and for my children!

1. Beeping Eggs!

Did you know there is such a thing as beeping Easter eggs? That’s right, no worries about struggling to see the eggs at the egg hunt. Save the beeping ones just for the littles that need them, and let the other kids know not to pick them up. Here's some Beeping Easter Eggs from Amazon to see.

2. High Up & Balloons

Other ideas I’ve seen in action is to place easter eggs higher up (like on picnic tables) for children in wheelchairs/limited mobility. Also, using balloons instead of eggs, because they are bigger and easier to handle.

3. Dye Eggs with Jello

Use Jello for a taste-friendly egg dyeing experience! It can be hard to keep hands out of the mouth, so this is an option that is technically edible (although it might not taste the best still). Check out these food dye for easter eggs ideas from Food Network.

4. Paint with Carrots

Not everyone can easily cold a skinny paint brush, even the typical toddler will struggle with this at times. Get creative with the painting tool you use. Carrot sticks used as paint brushes seems perfectly fitting for Easter fun! Just make sure the carrots aren't also being used as a snack while they have paint on them.

5. Easter Basket/Sensory Bin

You know your child best, so fill their basket with sensory friendly items that they'll love. Plushy bunnies, empty plastic eggs, and the fake grass can be great items to add. Target’s famous low-cost section is a good place to start shopping, but the dollar store is a great option too!

Now that I've given you a few simple ideas for making Easter more accessible, what idea was your favorite? Got any other ideas you'd like to share?
